“Rainy Day Entertainment, this is Jen Winchester. How may I help you today?” ‘Yes! I actually sounded confident. I’m getting better at this~’ She smiled.
“This is the fifth time I’ve had to call in about this stupid smartphone and I’m tired of it not working! I demand a refund.”
‘Not another one…’ She held back a groan. ‘What should I do? I can try to calm her down or just not deal with it and issue her a refund… but that will reflect badly on the company…’
“I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble, ma’am. I can issue a refund, but before we do that, would you mind explaining your issue, please?”
She sighed deeply. “Every time I try to use the damn thing, it responds so slowly! It takes ages just to do anything!”
“I see. How long have you had this phone?”
“Hm, it definitely shouldn’t be experiencing that, then.” Jen frowned, typing away on the computer, her eyes scanning the articles at lightning speed. “Let’s see, it looks as if there was an operating system update on Tuesday.”
“That’s when it started!” She huffed.
“The most common cause for slow responses on smartphones occurs just after an operating update when there are too many apps running in the background. Will you take a moment to close down any apps you currently are not using, close all tabs, and then clear the cache?”
The line went silent and Jen waited patiently as the woman muttered under her breath a few times before finally coming back to the line. “Okay, now what?”
“Will you please restart your phone for me?”
“Okay,” A few minutes passed by before she spoke up again. “It’s… working! Oh my god, thank you so much!”
“You’re welcome, ma’am. Did you still want that refund?”
“Well, since it’s working… no. Thank you and sorry for snapping at you. I’ve had a long day, but that’s no excuse.”
“It’s alright, I understand. If there are any more issues, please feel free to call back.”
“I will, and I’ll ask for you~ Bye!”
By the end of the call, she feels drained already but also quite proud. Her boss was contacted later that day and told how calm and helpful Jen had been on the call. Impressed with her work, Jen was promoted to Quality Assurance!
With some money saved up, she can now begin to build her soon-to-be home.
It’s far from being complete and it’s quite small, but she feels pride looking at it because she built it herself from the ground with her own hard-earned simoleons. Her whole life, she had never really worked for anything because her godmother was quite well off.
But now she’s being forced to survive on her own and she was convinced that she couldn’t make it, but now… now she’s starting to wonder if that’s really true. She even had enough to buy her own computer!
No more taxing trips to the library for her!
The rest of the night is spent video gaming and researching programming.
